How to use Coreg

The ideal way to use Coreg is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.

Coreg is available both in the generic version as well as the extended release version.

You may take the generic version twice a day with a meal and if you have been prescribed the extended release version then take it once a day in the morning with food.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking Coreg to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.

On the other hand, if it is almost time for the next dose, then omit this dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.

Store Coreg between 59 to 77 degrees F (15 and 25 Degrees), at room temperature. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.

Avoid storing Coreg in the bathroom.

A Coreg overdose may have certain adverse symptoms like breathing difficulties, loss of consciousness, seizures, heart problems, slow heartbeat, very low blood pressure and vomiting which may require immediate medical attention. So please contact your doctor immediately if you suspect that the patient has overdosed on Coreg.
Consult your doctor before using Coreg if you have conditions like chronic bronchitis and emphysema, asthma, certain types of irregular heartbeats (e.g., sinus bradycardia, second or third degree atrioventricular block), cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure (overt or decompensated type), liver disease, other breathing problems (e.g., chronic obstructive lung disease), other heart problems (e.g., Prinzmetal's variant angina), diabetes, overactive thyroid disease (hyperthyroidism), kidney disease, blood circulation problems (e.g., Raynaud's disease), skin conditions (e.g., psoriasis), mental/mood disorders (e.g., depression), a certain type of tumor (pheochromocytoma), certain muscle disease (myasthenia gravis), if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

Do not use Coreg if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure).

The medication must be stopped only after consulting your doctor. If you stop suddenly, then it will only worsen your condition especially if you already have chest pain (angina) or heart disease (e.g., coronary artery disease, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure). The dosage needs to be tapered and then eventually stopped giving your body the time to adjust to the lowered dosage.

Avoid activities which may exert strain on the heart. This includes exercise or any other strenuous physical activity.

If you suddenly notice symptoms like worsening chest pain, tightness or pressure in the chest, chest pain spreading to the jaw/neck/arm, sweating, trouble breathing or fast/irregular heartbeat, then contact your doctor immediately.

If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether Coreg is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.

Coreg may affect your blood sugar level so please monitor your blood sugar under the supervision of your doctor. It may mask the symptoms of low blood sugar so ensure that you notice symptoms like dizziness or sweating.

You must inform your doctor or your dentist about Coreg before you undergo treatment or any emergency surgery.

You may be required to undergo certain lab tests including while taking Coreg. These tests are prescribed to monitor the progress as well as the severity of side effects. Please do not miss any lab appointments.
