Deltasone is used to decrease inflammation and reduce the symptoms in a variety of conditions like ulcerative colitis, psoriasis and Crohn's disease.
However, your doctor may also prescribe Deltasone for other conditions if found appropriate.

How to use Deltasone

The ideal way to use Deltasone is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.

Preferably, Deltasone should be taken with meal to avoid stomach upset.

You must not stop taking Deltasone without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Deltasone which is the brand name for Prednisone is a class of drugs called steroids. Prednisone prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.
Prednisone is used to treat many different conditions such as allergic disorders, skin conditions, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, or breathing disorders.
Prednisone may also be used for other purposes as decided by the doctor.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking Deltasone to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.

On the other hand, if it is almost time for the next dose, then omit this dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.


Store Deltason at room temperature away from moisture.


A Deltasone overdose may have certain adverse symptoms like, obesity (especially around the stomach), a round face, swollen hands and feet due to fluid retention and increased blood pressure which may require immediate medical attention. So please contact your doctor immediately if you suspect that the patient has overdosed on Deltasone.

Although there are no reported cases of a Deltasone overdose, you must contact your doctor immediately if you suspect an overdose.
Consult your doctor before using Deltasone if you have conditions like, mental disorders like depression, underactive thyroid, liver or kidney problems, diabetes, or ulcerative colitis, herpes infection in your eye or any other type of infection (bacterial, fungal, or viral); have or recently had tuberculosis (TB) or tested positive for TB, measles, or chickenpox if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

The drug may cause light-headedness, dizziness, and faintness in some people. Do not consume alcohol along with the drug. Do not drive or handle heavy machinery until you know how to react to the drug. Contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen.
Do not use Deltasone if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure).
Deltasone is also not advisable in patients having systemic fungal infection and an allergy to mifepristone.

If you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, then consult your doctor before using Deltasone as it may harm your fetus.

If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether Deltasone is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.

Deltasone can interact with certain medicines. So, you must inform your doctor if you are taking

You are scheduled for a live virus vaccine (e.g.: small pox)

Most drugs have some kind of side effects associated with them. However, most people do not experience them at all or experience just mild side effects which subside as the body adjusts to the medicine.

Some of the mild but common side effects of Deltasone are Difficulty sleeping; feeling of a whirling motion; increased appetite; increased sweating; indigestion; mood changes; nervousness.

However, please contact your doctor if these side effects do not go away after a while or start bothering you.

On the other hand, Deltasone may also cause some severe side effects like Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); appetite loss; black, tarry stools; changes in menstrual periods; convulsions; depression; diarrhea; dizziness; exaggerated sense of well-being; fever; general body discomfort; headache; increased pressure in the eye; joint or muscle pain; mood swings; muscle weakness; personality changes; prolonged sore throat, cold, or fever; puffing of the face; severe nausea or vomiting; swelling of feet or legs; unusual weight gain; vomiting material that looks like coffee grounds; weakness; weight loss.

Please seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of these severe side effects.
