diflucan is used in the treatment of fungal infections called candidiasis (vaginal infections, throat infections, and fungal infections elsewhere). Some instances of the condition are Oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis and Cryptococcal meningitis. The drug may also be prescribed to reduce the incidence of candidiasis in people undergoing bone marrow transplant.
However, your doctor may also prescribe diflucan for other conditions if found appropriate.

How to use diflucan

The ideal way to use diflucan in a solid form is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.
If you are taking diflucan in the liquid form then you must shake it properly so that it mixes well so that it gets even.

You must not stop taking diflucan without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking diflucan to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.

On the other hand, if it is almost time for the next dose, then omit this dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.


Store diflucan at room temperature. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.


A diflucan overdose may have certain adverse symptoms like, Confusion, hallucinations, paranoia, decreased movement, decreased breathing, tearing eyes, drooling; urinary incontinence, seizures, and death in extreme cases are some of the symptoms of a diflucan overdose which may require immediate medical attention. So please contact your doctor immediately if you suspect that the patient has overdosed on diflucan.
Consult your doctor before using diflucan if you have conditions like, if you are taking astemizole, an aldosterone blocker (eg, eplerenone), cisapride, an ergot alkaloid (eg, ergotamine), erythromycin, pimozide, a serotonin (5-HT1) receptor agonist (eg, eletriptan), or terfenadine if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

Do not use diflucan if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure).

You must avoid taking alcoholic beverages while using diflucan as it can increase the chances of becoming drowsy, faint or dizzy. Potentially hazardous tasks like driving, handling heavy machinery should also be avoided.

If you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, then consult your doctor before using diflucan as diflucan may harm your fetus.

If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether diflucan is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.

diflucan can interact with certain medicines like Aldosterone blockers (eg, eplerenone), amiodarone, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, serotonin receptor agonists (eg, eletriptan), macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin), quinolines (eg, ciprofloxacin), or terfenadine because the risk of severe irregular heartbeat (eg, QT prolongation) may be increasedRifabutin because the risk of certain eye problems (eg, uveitis) may be increasedMacrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus) because the risk of kidney problems may be increasedRifampin or proton pump inhibitors (eg, omeprazole) because they may decrease diflucan 's effectivenessAnticoagulants (eg, warfarin), benzodiazepines (eg, alprazolam), buspirone, carbamazepine, cyclophosphamide, cyclosporine, ergot alkaloids (eg, ergotamine ), haloperidol, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or "statins" (eg, simvastatin), hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), methadone, muscarinic antagonists (eg, solifenacin, tolterodine), narcotics (eg, codeine), ramelteon, sulfonylureas (eg, glipizide), theophylline, or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline) because the risk of their side effects may be increased by diflucan.. You must be extremely careful and well medically guided before taking diflucan if you have a weakened immune system, kidney or liver disease, or an irregular heartbeat
Most drugs have some kind of side effects associated with them. However, most people do not experience them at all or experience just mild side effects which subside as the body adjusts to the medicine.

Some of the mild but common side effects of diflucan are Changes in taste; dizziness; headache; nausea; stomach pain.

However, please contact your doctor if these side effects do not go away after a while or start bothering you.

On the other hand, diflucan may also cause some severe side effects like Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); diarrhea; scaly, red skin over a large portion of the body; swollen or tender abdomen; vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
