How to use Lasix

The ideal way to use Lasix is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.

Lasix may be taken with or without a meal to avoid stomach problems. Since it increases your frequency of urination, try and take the last dose by 6 pm or else it may disturb your sleep.

Preferably, Lasix should be taken at the same time each day to help maintain a regular routine for taking it.

You must not stop taking Lasix without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.

Blood uric acid levels can increase during furosemide treatment, but precipitation of acute gout is rare. Furosemide may increase the toxic effect of aminoglycoside antibiotics on the ear, especially in patients with kidney dysfunction. Furosemide reduces the kidney excretion of lithium and can lead to lithium toxicity. Furosemide may impair kidney function when administered together with aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Periodic blood tests are performed to monitor kidney function and electrolytes during treatment with furosemide
