How to use Lisinopril

The ideal way to use Lisinopril is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.

Lisinopril may be taken with or without a meal.

Do not take Lisinopril within two hours of taking any antacid.

Preferably, Lisinopril should be taken at the same time each day to help maintain a regular routine for taking it.

Missed Dose

Store Lisinopril between 59 to 86 degrees F (15 and 30 Degrees), at room temperature. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.

Do not use Lisinopril if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure), if you are taking other ace inhibitors, potassium conserving drugs like dyazide.

You must avoid taking alcoholic beverages while using Lisinopril as it can increase the chances of becoming drowsy, faint or dizzy. Potentially hazardous tasks like driving, handling heavy machinery should also be avoided.

Patients undergoing treatment for high blood pressure often report a feeling of being worn out and tired for the first few weeks of the treatment cycle. If you experience this, then do not stop taking Lisinopril suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Do not use a salt substitute or a product with potassium in it without consulting your doctor first.

Situations like heavy sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, or other causes of fluid loss can quickly cause your blood pressure to plummet to low levels. So please consult your doctor or maintain proper fluid intake to prevent this from happening.
Most drugs have some kind of side effects associated with them. However, most people do not experience them at all or experience just mild side effects which subside as the body adjusts to the medicine.

Some of the mild but common side effects of Lisinopril are mild dizziness or lightheadedness; headache; unusual fatigue or weakness; dry, tickling cough; muscle cramps; numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, arms, or legs; nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; a rash; or impotence.

However, please contact your doctor if these side effects do not go away after a while or start bothering you.

On the other hand, Lisinopril may also cause some severe side effects like difficulty breathing; little or no urine; an irregular heartbeat or changes in your heartbeat; chest pain; severe dizziness or fainting; or signs of an infection including a sore throat or a fever, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, severe allergic reactions (hives).
