How to use Naprosyn

The ideal way to use Naprosyn is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.

Naprosyn may be taken with a meal or an antacid to avoid stomach problems.

Preferably, Naprosyn should be taken at the same time each day to help maintain a regular routine for taking it. If you are using it to treat arthritis, then sticking to your regular dosage is extremely important.

You must not stop taking Naprosyn without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking Naprosyn to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.

On the other hand, if it is almost time for the next dose, then omit this dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.


Store Naprosyn between 59 to 77 degrees F (15 and 25 Degrees), at room temperature. Ensure that you protect it from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light and from the reach of children and pets.

Avoid storing Naprosyn in the bathroom.


A Naprosyn overdose may have certain adverse symptoms like drowsiness, heartburn, indigestion, nausea and vomiting which may require immediate medical attention. So please contact your doctor immediately if you suspect that the patient has overdosed on Naprosyn.

Although there are no reported cases of a Naprosyn overdose, you must contact your doctor immediately if you suspect an overdose.
Consult your doctor before using Naprosyn if you have conditions like an ulcer or bleeding in your stomach, drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day, have liver disease, Have kidney disease, have a coagulation (bleeding) disorder, have congestive heart failure, have fluid retention, have heart disease, or have high blood pressure, if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

Do not use Naprosyn if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure).

You must avoid taking alcoholic beverages while using Naprosyn as it can increase the chances of becoming drowsy, faint or dizzy. Potentially hazardous tasks like driving, handling heavy machinery should also be avoided.

Naprosyn is in the FDA pregnancy category B.

If you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, then consult your doctor before using Naprosyn as Naprosyn may harm your fetus.

If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether Naprosyn is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.

It is known to cause Peptic ulcers without any warning. Consult your doctor to discuss the risks and your options.

If you notice blood in vomit or bloody, black, or tarry stools, then contact your doctor immediately.
Most drugs have some kind of side effects associated with them. However, most people do not experience them at all or experience just mild side effects which subside as the body adjusts to the medicine.

Some of the mild but common side effects of Naprosyn are dizziness or headache; nausea, diarrhea, or constipation; depression; fatigue or weakness; dry mouth; or irregular menstrual periods.

However, please contact your doctor if these side effects do not go away after a while or start bothering you.

On the other hand, Naprosyn may also cause some severe side effects like an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); muscle cramps, numbness, or tingling; ulcers (open sores) in the mouth;
rapid weight gain (fluid retention); seizures; decreased hearing or ringing in the ears; yellowing of your skin or eyes (jaundice); or0020abdominal cramping, heartburn, or indigestion.
