Prilosec is a drug for short term treatment of the stomach ulcers duodenal ulcer, heartburn and other symptoms of gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is advantageous over other drugs as it may be used in combination with other antacids. How to Use Prilosec

The ideal way to use Prilosec is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.
You must take Prilosec before meals.

Prilosec drug is available in the form capsule. You should swallow it whole and should not crush or chew it generally.

In case if you really have problems in swallowing the capsule you may open it and take its content out in and a spoon and consume it with applesauce.

You must not stop taking Prilosec without consulting your doctor even if you attain relief after a short while post starting treatment.

Never hesitate to ask questions about Prilosec.
Prilosec is not for immediate relief in case of hears burn.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking Prilosec to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, skip the missed the dose and go for your scheduled medication.

On the other hand if it almost time for the next dose than avoid taking it.

Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.


Store it at room temperature in a tightly closed container.

Prilosec overdose causes following symptoms Confusion, drowsiness, dry mouth, flushing, headache, nausea, rapid, heartbeat and sweating. Rush to your doctor immediately incase of drug overdose.
Consult your doctor before using Prilosec if you have conditions like, if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

Do not stop using Prilosec without prior permission from your doctor.
Most drugs have some kind of side effects associated with them. However, most people do not experience them at all or experience just mild side effects which subside as the body adjusts to the medicine.

Some of the mild but common side effects of Prilosec are diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain; dizziness; or headache.

However, please contact your doctor if these side effects do not go away after a while or start bothering you.

On the other hand, Prilosec may also cause some severe side effects like breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); chest pain; dark urine; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or sore throat; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness; vision changes; yellowing of the eyes or skin.
